DC man charged with murder after man found shot to death in Northeast

The victim in this case was later identified as 34-year-old John Coleman of Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a D.C. man in connection to a deadly shooting that occurred back in May. George Sutton, 44, of Northeast is charged with first-degree murder while armed for his alleged involvement in the homicide.

At 12:26 p.m. on Monday, May 1, officers responded to the 2000 block of M Street, Northeast for a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead after finding no signs consistent with life. 

The victim remained on the scene until taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. He has since been identified as 34-year-old John Coleman of Northeast, D.C.

On Wednesday, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Sutton. He was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with first-degree murder while armed.
