PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A man is facing charges after Monday morning's shooting on I-95 in Prince George’s County.
Maryland State Police have arrested Kevin Gross, 46, of Baltimore, in connection with a shooting that left a 28-year-old man injured on I-95 early Monday morning. Gross faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and other related offenses. He is currently being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
The shooting prompted a significant police presence that caused major disruptions during the morning commute. All northbound lanes of I-95 were closed between Exit 31A (MD 200 Intercounty Connector) and Exit 33A (MD 198 Sandy Spring Road) for several hours. Two left-hand southbound lanes were also temporarily shut down in the same stretch of Laurel.
By noon, all northbound lanes reopened, allowing traffic to resume, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation. Southbound lanes were cleared earlier in the morning. Commuters faced delays and were urged to use alternate routes while police conducted their investigation.
Police say the victim was found outside his car on the highway around 4 a.m. He was shot and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.
Investigators say Gross and the victim are acquaintances. It remains unclear whether the victim was inside or outside his car at the time of the shooting. Investigators have not revealed a potential motive or clarified whether road rage played a role.
