I-95 lanes back open in Prince George's County following shooting investigation

Heavy police presence had traffic at a standstill in Prince George's County Monday morning. Here's what we know.

LAUREL, Md. — Morning commutes may be delayed after heavy police presence on I-95 shut down lanes in Prince George’s County.

All northbound I-95 lanes were closed between Exit 31A to MD-200 Intercounty Connector and exit 33A to MD-198 Sandy Spring Road, for several hours Monday morning.  Two left-hand southbound lanes were also closed in the same area of Laurel. All southbound lanes have since reopened. Northbound lanes were back open to traffic by noon, according to MDOT.

Maryland State Police say a 28-year-old man was found outside his car on the highway. From a preliminary investigation, police believe he was shot at around 4 a.m. He has been transported to shock trauma, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Investigators say the shooter and victim are acquaintances and it is unclear if the victim was inside or out of his car when he was shot. So far, no motive has been released.

Police have not provided a lookout for whoever shot him or said if the man was involved in a road rage incident.  Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and follow police presence while the investigation continues.
