Man found shot dead near Rock Creek Cemetery in DC

Police are still searching for the person who pulled the trigger.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police discovered a man shot dead on Saturday afternoon and are asking for the public's help to find the person who pulled the trigger. The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

According to police, officers were called to the Rock Creek Cemetery for a reported shooting. When police got to the scene, they found the man dead immediately behind an apartment building in the 5000 block of First Street Northwest, in the area of the cemetery. 

Detectives have not identified the man shot. The circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting are still under investigation. Police offered a vague description of the shooter, but so far no arrests have been made. 

Additional details about this shooting have not yet been made public.

According to D.C. Police crime stats, there have been 171 homicides in D.C. as of Nov. 8. That's down 27% from this time last year.
