FAIRFAX, Va. — A former Northern Virginia doctor was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for the attack and attempted sexual assault of the woman he was married to in September 2020.

According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano, 61-year-old Drew Steiner was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attacking and trying to sexually assault his wife.

The former Army doctor was convicted of multiple charges in 2023, including abduction with intent to defile, malicious wounding, and attempted rape. Additionally, he is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for raping and unlawfully videotaping a Fairfax woman he had met online in August 2020.

Upon release, Steiner will also be required to serve three years of supervision and is required to register as a sex offender.

“Mr. Steiner committed a series of attacks in late 2020, and this sentencing is the end of a painful saga for everyone involved,” CA Descano said. “While he is already serving a 10-year sentence in another case, this sentence helps reassure our community that Steiner can no longer endanger our neighbors.”

Evidence presented during the trial showed that Steiner attacked his wife on September 26, 2020, during an argument. During the attack, Steiner duct-taped his wife to a pole in the basement of their Springfield home. She was able to get away after Steiner turned off the lights and left.

In 2021, WUSA9 spoke with Carmella Dillman who lived next door to Steiner. She told us she remembered being awoken by knocking at her door in the middle of the night.

“His wife was knocking on the door asking us to help her because her husband was going to kill her,” Dillman said. "She was in pajamas, it was very scary, she said he had a gun.”
