Virginia man sentenced to 15 years for drug and gun trafficking

One package confiscated by police contained 50,000 fentanyl-laced pills. Carrington Hammond also sold fentanyl in powder form, as well as cocaine.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — An Alexandria man will spend the next 15 years in prison for conspiring to distribute fentanyl and possessing a firearm.

Carrington Hammond, 29, worked with Arizona-based suppliers and local redistributors to sell large quantities of fentanyl in parts of Virginia, according to court documents. Hammond’s co-conspirators reportedly mailed packages containing tens of thousands of counterfeit pills across the country to Hammond.

The pills looked like oxycodone but were laced with fentanyl. One package confiscated by police contained 50,000 fentanyl-laced pills. Hammond also sold fentanyl in powder form, as well as cocaine.

During the conspiracy, Hammond sold multiple firearms in addition to drug trafficking. Officers recovered three firearms that Hammond reportedly sold to local drug dealers, including a “ghost” gun.

On August 10, 2023, officers obtained warrants to search Hammond’s and several of his co-conspirators' apartments. During the search over five kilograms of fentanyl-laced pills, over two kilograms of fentanyl powder, over one kilogram of cocaine, and firearms were recovered.

Hammond was prosecuted multiple times for drug and firearm offenses, as well as violent crimes. Three of his co-conspirators are scheduled to be sentenced on February 20.
