OXON HILL, Md. — Police have charged a father in connection with the death of his 2-year-old son in Prince George's County.
Lance Harrison, 32, of Oxon Hill, is charged with child abuse resulting in death for allegedly beating his son to death, later identified as Kayceson Barkley.
On June 9, just before 4 a.m., officers responded to an apartment on Livingston Terrace. Once there, officers found an unresponsive toddler with multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later at an area hospital.
An autopsy on Sunday revealed the child suffered multiple fractures, bruising all over and hemorrhaging. The medical examiner said some of the injuries were not accidental. Additional testing is needed to determine the exact cause of death.
Harrison had sole care and custody of his son at the time he was killed. During an interview with detectives, Harrison said his son fell down a flight of stairs, resulting in his injuries. Nearly nine hours after the alleged fall, Harrison ended up contacting authorities.
During the course of the investigation, detectives got a search warrant for Harrison's apartment. Inside, they found blood belonging to the child in multiple locations, but none on or near the stairway leading to the apartment where Harrison said the child fell.
Police have charged Harrison with first-degree child abuse resulting in death and other related offenses. He is in custody currently on the charges.
