DUMFRIES, Va. — Police in Prince William County are asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible for a carjacking that took a deadly turn over the weekend. A 37-year-old man was run over by his own car in Dumfries and died.

Police say it happened around 7 p.m. in the 16400 block of Stedham Circle on Saturday. The victim, later identified as Jose Vasquez Galvan, was approached by an unknown person while outside his gold Lexus SUV. The suspect got into the SUV and began to drive in reverse. According to police, Galvan grabbed onto the car before the SUV struck another car, reversed and ran over Galvan. The man then stole the SUV away, and Galvan was taken to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.

While out on an unrelated call Tuesday morning, police found the stolen Lexus in the 14900 block of Ashdale Circle in Woodbridge. The driver was not found.

Police did obtain new surveillance images of the wanted man.
