ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police say two juvenile boys were found shot inside a vehicle around 2 a.m. Saturday morning near the intersection of North Fayette and Wythe Streets in Old Town, Alexandria.
Both minors were taken to the hospital. One in stable condition, the other in critical condition.
The violence has left some residents with more questions than answers.
“We don’t know the status of the kids that were shot, we don’t know what’s going to happen within our neighborhood," said a resident who didn't want to be identified. "We don’t know a lot right now and we’re still reeling. We still don’t know how to move forward.”
That resident says Saturday's shooting hit close to home.
“We woke up to the gunfire. The first thing we did was grabbed our kids and brought them into the back bedroom," she said. “The vehicle that they were shooting into actually pushed into our vehicle up onto the curb.”
Leaving significant damage. She says her SUV may be totaled.
Sunday afternoon, officers were spotted near the intersection where those juveniles were shot. This resident wishes they had been here Saturday morning.
"Usually we do have a police presence either at the post office across the street or they have a camera set up. They kind of move around the area, but this summer it’s kind of been intermittent," she said. "We haven’t had the cameras as much, we haven’t had a police presence here as much. It’s been kind of frustrating to not have that.”
Alexandria Police are actually investigating a pair of recent shootings. A little over a week before Saturday morning’s incident, on September 19th, a 25-year-old was killed in a shooting just down the street. A 46-year-old and 15-year-old were also wounded in that shooting but are expected to survive.
This resident says these recent scares may force her and her family to leave.
"This is a community neighborhood. Both sides of the street we like to hangout and just kind of run around together," she said. "Not being able to let our kids walk the dog around the block now. We all kind of come in now when things get dark, especially on the weekends. Not being able to let my kids run around after dark on the weekends is really concerning. I don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to stay here."
No arrests have been announced in either shootings. We reached out to Alexandria Police for an update on these investigations but have not heard back.
