WASHINGTON — A moment of rage turned deadly in Northeast D.C. when a man stormed into his ex-girlfriend's bedroom and fatally shot her new boyfriend in front of a six-year-old child.
Marcus Walker, 24, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on charges related to the shooting death of Erik King, his ex-girlfriend’s new partner, on October 11, 2022. The sentencing was handed down by a judge on Friday.
On May 7, a jury found Walker guilty of second-degree murder while armed, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, second-degree cruelty to children, three counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device. In addition to the prison sentence, Walker was ordered to serve five years of supervised release.
The events leading to the sentencing occurred at Walker's ex-girlfriend's apartment. According to court records, Walker had been living in the living room of the apartment, while his ex-girlfriend, her new boyfriend, and a six-year-old child occupied the bedroom.
On the night of October 11, 2022, Walker became enraged after discovering his ex-girlfriend and King engaging in sexual relations in the bedroom. Walker sent a series of aggressive text messages for an hour before forcibly breaking into the locked bedroom.
Once inside, Walker demanded that the couple stop what they were doing. When they refused, Walker opened fire, shooting King twice—once in the chest and once in the scrotum. King was pronounced dead at the scene. A six-year-old child was present in the room at the time of the shooting.
