DC man sentenced to 24 years in prison for deadly shooting in hallway of NE apartment building

He fired his gun at least seven times toward two unarmed people in the second floor hallway of an apartment building, striking both and killing one of them.

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Friday for a deadly shooting inside a Northeast apartment building.

DeJuan Bell, 47, will head to prison for shooting and killing Davon Childs in December of 2021. 

Bell pleaded guilty on March 1 for the murder. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, with five years of supervised release for second-degree murder to run alongside the sentence of 12 years in prison for aggravated assault while armed and five years of supervised release for that charge.

According to evidence, which Bell agreed on, at 10 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2021, Bell fired his gun at least seven times toward two unarmed people in the second-floor hallway of an apartment building, striking both and killing one of them.
