LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Deputies from St. Mary’s County are investigating a card skimmer found at a Dollar General Store.
On May 26, Deputy Anthony Cucinotta responded to a call from an employee at the Dollar General store on Potomac Way in Charlotte Hall. When he arrived, the employee told the deputy one of the card reading machines began malfunctioning the day before.
When they inspected the machine they found a look-alike keypad taped over the machine’s keypad. Surveillance video showed two men walking into the store on May 24, just before noon, and placing a skimmer on the card reader before leaving.
Police say the man who placed the skimmer has bushy hair, a dark mustache, a dark-colored tattoo on the left-side of his neck, and a piercing in his left ear. The second man has long dark hair and a goatee.
Customers who made purchases between May 24 and 26 should check their accounts for fraudulent activity.
Anyone with information about the suspects or the incident is asked to call police at 301-475-4200.
