Warning issued to Prince George's Co residents after skimming devices were located in 8 stores

A community-wide warning about skimming devices has been issued in Prince George’s Co. after police recovered 8 credit card skimming devices across multiple stores.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A community-wide warning about skimming devices has been issued in Prince George’s County after police recovered eight credit card skimming devices across multiple convenience stores in the county.

Skimming devices can be placed on card readers inside retail, grocery, and convenience stores or any location where card transactions are made. Investigators are recommending that residents use contactless payment or “Tap to Pay” because they say it's a safer method of payment.

Locations of recovered skimmers:

  • 4500 block of Saint Barnabas Road in Temple Hills
  • 3000 block of Forestville Road in Forestville
  • 6100 block of Oxon Hill Road in Oxon Hill
  • 6800 block of Race Track Road in Unincorporated Bowie
  • 6300 block of Central Avenue in Seat Pleasant
  • 11000 block of Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville
  • 9100 block of Riggs Road in Chillum area
  • 5800 block of Greenbelt Road in College Park

A similar incident has been occurring in retail stores across D.C. Police have since released photos of the two men they say are behind it and have asked for the community’s help identifying the men. At this time, PGPD has not confirmed if the suspects behind the D.C. skimming devices are the same ones thought to have placed the ones around Prince George’s County.

If you believe you have been a victim of a skimming device, contact investigators at 301-516-1464. Also, notify a store employee, leave the device in place, and allow officers to remove it.
