Police search for suspects wanted for Capitol Hill crime spree

Police say these suspects pulled guns on dozens of people, carrying out seven robberies in two hours.

WASHINGTON — DC Police need your help to track down a trio of suspected armed robbers who went on a crime spree Monday morning on Capitol Hill. Police say they pulled guns on nearly a dozen people, and stole thousands of dollars worth of items. One of the robbers was wearing an Amazon Prime delivery vest

As the search continues, we retraced the trio's steps. What we found was a sporadic, chaotic ride.

It started Monday morning at 6 a.m. Police responded to an area near 600 10th Street Northeast. Police say the three suspects approached three people getting into a car, took their wallets and purses, and got away in a gray sedan.

A half an hour later, around 6:30 a.m., the group was in the area of 3rd and K Streets Northeast. Police say they tried to rob another victim, didn't get anything, and took off again.

About 25 minutes later, just before 7 a.m., the suspects pulled guns on two victims in the 1300 block of East Capitol Street. They took their phones, and left.

As people were waking up on Capitol Hill, they started to notice, because hey started getting crime alerts.

Denise Krepp, a former Capitol Hill Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, said her phone was blowing up with notifications.

"We hit three, went to get a cup of coffee, got to four, ya know," Krepp said.

But the spree wasn't over yet. Police responded to another gunpoint robbery around 7 a.m. on Burke Street.

Then, at 7:30 a.m., the suspects put a man in a chokehold and punched and kicked him in the head before taking his phone and wallet in the 200 block of I Street Northeast.

Not long after that, another victim was robbed at gunpoint in the 600 block of D Street Northeast.

The final robbery was reported around 7:45 a.m. The crime spree ended, but police say the crimes associated with it didn't.

According to investigators, two more persons of interest were caught on camera using credit cards stolen in the rampage to buy things not long after.

Back on Capitol Hill, neighbors like Krepp say it's a scary time to live there.

"We've got robberies, we've got burglaries, we've got carjackings, we have car thefts," Krepp said "I really don't know where the crime is down in D.C., but it's not in my neighborhood."

Police are still on the lookout for that silver sedan with either Maryland or Virginia plates 1EW1498.

Anyone with information about any of these crimes is urged to contact police at 202-727-9099, or text the department's tip line at 50411.
