Police search for armed robbery suspect in Amazon Prime vest

Police did not offer details about the armed robberies, but said they are looking for a silver sedan with Maryland or Virginia plates 1EW1498

WASHINGTON — Just as the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, Metropolitan Police Department officers are looking for a man dressed as an Amazon worker who may not be what he seems. According to police a man dressed in an Amazon Prime delivery vest is wanted in connection to two separate robberies that occurred Monday morning. Monday is known as Cyber Monday, where shoppers can get deep discounts by shopping online, on Amazon and elsewhere.

A spokesperson for the police department said the first robbery was reported just after 6 a.m. in the 600 block of 10th Street Northeast. Specifics about the robbery are not known, but police said they are looking for three men armed with handguns. One of them was wearing a vest. 

Another robbery was reported about an hour later in the area of 13th and East Capitol Street Southeast. Police believe both robberies involved the same suspects. No injuries were reported in either case. 

Police are on the lookout for a silver sedan with either Maryland or Virginia plates 1EW1498.

On Sunday evening around 6 p.m., officers responded to an armed carjacking in the 2300 block of Tunlaw Road Northwest. A police spokesperson told WUSA9 that two suspects took an Amazon delivery truck and the driver's vest. 

Police have not yet said whether the carjacking and robberies are related.
