Teenagers charged in Fairfax County shooting that left 14-year-old dead

A 16-year-old was also hurt in the drive-by shooting.

ANNANDALE, Va. — Fairfax County Police say two teenagers are in custody for a shooting in Annandale that left a 14-year-old boy dead and a 16-year-old hurt.

Police arrested a 15-year-old and 16-year-old in connection to the shooting, officials announced Tuesday. The 15-year-old was charged with second-degree murder and a gun charge. The 16-year-old was charged with second-degree principal, which means they were present and may have been an accomplice to the crime.

Detectives believe the two charged teens were in a car in the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court on June 28 when they pulled up on the 14-year-old and 16-year-old walking in the area and shot them from inside the car before taking off. Detectives do not believe the crime was random.

Fairfax County detectives are still investigating the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the deadly shooting. Anyone with more information is asked to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800. Anonymous tips can be submitted via Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
