MARYLAND, USA — Montgomery County Police have been stuck between a rock and a hard place for the last six months in a case that doesn't allow them to pursue legal actions because of the suspect's age.
On Sunday, University of Maryland Police saw a young boy riding an electric scooter along Guildford Drive just before 11:45 p.m.
When officers attempted to stop the boy, they say he got off the scooter and ran away. Officers later reportedly found the boy hiding behind some dumpsters in a loading dock near the 4300 block of Hartwick Road. Upon further investigation, they learned the boy was 12 years old.
At the loading dock was also an unoccupied black Tesla with its trunk open. Officers searched the 12-year-old and found a key fob belonging to the Tesla. They ran the license plates and found that the Tesla was registered to a dealership in Montgomery County.
Additionally, the scooter the boy was riding also did not appear to belong to him.
When officers ran the child's name they found a total of 10 cases dating back to March. Due to the child's age and Maryland law, police had to release him back to his parents.
