WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and dozens of kids plunged into pool season on Friday afternoon by jumping into Anacostia Pool under perfect conditions – blue skies and plenty of sunshine.
Seven-year old Ava says she has a lot of plans for this upcoming summer.
"I get to go to the beach," she explained excitedly, "and to the pool!"
Kathy Williams teaches at Promise Academy in Southeast and accompanied a group of kids to opening day.
"We are definitely welcoming the summer out here," she said, "I think it’s a good thing for the kids to be able to come somewhere where they can hang out with their families and friends."
A total of 22 outdoor pools are opening up in the District this Memorial Day weekend, according to the DC Department of Parks and Recreation.
All pools are free to use for D.C. residents and require a paid membership for those that live outside the nation's capital.
Here are the 22 outdoor pools opening up in DC to swim the day away:

- Happy Hallow Children's Pool, 2200 Champlain Street, NW
- Park View Children's Pool, 693 Otis Place, NW
- Francis Pool, 2435 N Street, NW
- Jelleff Pool, 3265 S Street, NW
- Volta Park Pool, 1555 34th Street, NW
- Hearst Pool, 3701 37th Street, NW
- Upshur Pool, 4300 Arkansas Ave., NW
- Harry Thomas Sr. Pool, 1743 Lincoln Road, NE
- Langdon Park Pool, 2860 Mills Avenue, NE
- Theodore Hagans Pool, 3201 Fort Lincoln Drive, NE
- Randall Pool, 25 I Street, SW
- Rosedale Pool, 1701 Gales Street, NE
- Woody Ward Pool, 5100 Southern Ave., SE
- Kelly Miller Pool, 4900 Brooks Street, NE
- Kenilworth Pool, 4231 Ord Street, NE
- Ridge Road Pool, 830 Ridge Road, SE
- Anacostia Pool, 1800 Anacostia Drive, SE
- Douglass Pool, 1921 Frederick Douglass Ct., SE
- Fort Stanton Pool, 1800 Erie Street, SE
- Oxon Run Pool, 501 Mississippi Ave., SE
- Lincoln Capper Children's Pool, 555 L Street, SE
All pools are open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. throughout the summer except East Potomac Pool which is currently closed.
In addition to their regular hours, all pools will be open on Memorial Day this Monday, May 27 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
