CHILLUM, Md. — In a heartwarming display of service, firefighters from Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department saved a kitten from a house fire in Chillum Sunday evening.

The emergency call came in just after 6 p.m. reporting a fire at a two-story home on Karlson Court. Upon arrival, crews were met with challenging conditions — flames were blazing in the basement, and the home was cluttered with excessive storage, making the situation even more dangerous. Despite this, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly, preventing it from spreading further and ensuring the safety of the home’s occupant.

As the fire was brought under control, a search of the home revealed no human casualties. However, in the midst of the aftermath, several pets were discovered, including a small kitten that had been hiding in the smoke-filled house. The firefighters treated the pets outside the home, ensuring they received the care they needed.

A photo of one kitten rescued was captured at the home and can be seen below.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.

One person has been displaced as a result of the flames.
