BALTIMORE — Four sea turtles were released at Assateague State Park after being rehabilitated by the National Aquarium's rescue team.
There were two Kemp's ridleys and two loggerheads released, a press release said.
The two Kemp's ridley turtles came from the National Aquarium after being stranded on the Massachusetts coast. They have been in rehabilitation since November 2018.
According to the National Aquarium, the two loggerheads were rescued from Cape Cod in December 2018. The loggerheads, Iron and Gallium, were in the care of the New England Aquarium before going to Charm City for rehabilitation.
The National Aquarium also released two Kemp's ridley turtles that were rehabilitated at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
The National Aquarium's rescue program responds to stranded marine mammals and sea turtles along the Maryland coast, which spans nearly 3,190 miles.
The program also partners with the GARS Network to help respond, rescue and release animals in need year-round.
