BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police are investigating a chemical agent released during the Baltimore Pride Parade festivities.
On Saturday, police said they received calls just after 8:30 p.m. for reports of a possible chemical agent being released during a performance at the Pride Parade festivities. The chemical could have been mace, hair spray, or another agent, but at this time it is unknown what the agent was made of.
Someone also set off fireworks at the parade, which was mistaken for gunshots. This caused parade goers to panic and start running. According to police, several people were injured during this stampede as they were attempting to leave. Fire and EMS shut down the event and treated those injured at the scene. No word if anyone was hospitalized or how many people were injured.
Officers are reviewing surveillance videos to piece together the events that took place prior to the fireworks and chemical agent. At this time police are not calling this a hate crime and do not have enough evidence to say this was a targeted attack.
