Last-minute ideas for a perfect Mother's Day outing in the DMV

From a community baby shower, to the White House garden tour, WUSA9 has you covered this Mother's Day.

WASHINGTON — WUSA9 wants to help your family celebrate Mother's Day this weekend. 

The White House has announced its public garden tour taking place Mother's Day weekend. It's free and open to public, but attendees must get a timed ticket.  Tours will be offered starting at 10 am both Saturday and Sunday. The last tour starts at 4:30 pm. Free tickets will be given out from a tent outside the White House visitor center, located at 1450 Pennsylvania Ave NW at 8:30 am each day. Anyone attending, including small children, must have a ticket to enter.

Friday, May 10th, there's a community baby shower for expecting moms in Alexandria, Virginia. It’s from 10 am - noon at the Charles Houston recreation center. Every  mom will go home with baby supplies. It’s free to attend but registration is encouraged. 

A survey from Solitaire Bliss, found half of mothers wish they had a spouse or partner that helped with chores more often. If they have to ask for help, 70% said they'd just rather do it themselves. One in four mothers had less than 2 hours to themselves each week, but close to half, say they wish they could have more time to themselves for their mental health, to remain happy, and to remain positive. 

When it comes to gifting, Americans are expected to spend more than $33 billion dollars to celebrate Mother's Day according to the National Retail Federation. The retail trade group says the top three gifts for mom are flowers, greeting cards, and a special outing.
