WASHINGTON — We're getting uplifted by students getting the recognition they deserve.
Over the weekend, First Lady Jill Biden hosted the first-ever back-to-school night at the White House to celebrate the start of the new school year.
The South Lawn was packed with teachers, school professionals, students, and families as they played lawn games and showcased all the possibilities a new school year brings.
During the event, Biden spoke on her husband President Joe Biden's work with education during his presidency. The first lady talked about student loan forgiveness, increased teacher pay and pandemic recovery in schools, among other things.
"For my last 'Back to School' season here at the White House, I wanted to celebrate all of that progress," Biden said at the event.
The first lady is a school teacher herself and holds a doctorate in education. She was joined at the event by Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and several teachers of the year from around the country.
Monday night, the first lady posted on Instagram, writing, "As the year continues, know Joe and I will be cheering you on!"
