Man walks cross country to raise money for pediatric cancer

John Moschetti, 24, walked from Delaware to California in 178 days.

OLNEY, Md. — For the past seven months, 24-year-old John Moschetti has been traveling from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware to Santa Monica, California — on foot.

That's 3,456 miles in just 178 days. For reference, that's like walking from D.C. to Dublin, Ireland.

Moschetti said he averaged around 20 to 30 miles a day.

Throughout the journey, the Olney, Maryland native has been raising money for a charity that supports children and families impacted by pediatric cancer.

“I was inspired by Alex's Lemonade Stand, which is a family run charity started by a four year old with pediatric cancer,” Moschetti said.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the U.S., according to its website.

Since March 21, Moschetti has raised more than $16,000, and he's still accepting donations on Instagram at @picsofjawn.

“I'm gonna lay down probably till January,” Moschetti said, “and then it's time to get a job.”
