Local business donates $250,000 to local nonprofit

Republic Services, a waste and recycling company based in Bethesda, donated to the nonprofit A Wider Circle, which is based in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Two organizations in Montgomery County coming together to help out their fellow neighbors experiencing hardships are getting us uplifted.

Republic Services, a waste and recycling company based in Bethesda, is donating $250,000 to the nonprofit A Wider Circle, which is based in Silver Spring.

A Wider Circle works to end poverty and plans on using the much-needed funds to purchase equipment that will help distribute donated items like furniture and professional clothing to those in need.

The nonprofit says this kind of donation helps the organization do what it does best — help others.

“It’s energizing, it’s heartwarming, it sort of makes our mission possible and it allows us to have sort of that strength on … really hot days or when there's a really full roster of clients to feel bolstered by the energy of the community to come stand side by side with us and get the job done,” said Amy Javaid, president and CEO of A Wider Circle.

A Wider Circle also says they will use this money to distribute repurposed furniture and mattresses to those in need.
