WASHINGTON — The Go-Go Museum and Cafe in Southwest D.C. announced their inaugural Go-Go honors class Sunday night.
Several greats were inducted during its fundraiser and celebration including Mrs. Margarine Neal, the mother of Go-Go; Big Tony, creator of the band trouble funk; and At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, author of the bill that designated Go-Go as D.C.'s official music in 2020.
The Go-Go Museum and Cafe is set to open sometime this spring, but the beat goes on right now. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared Feb. 18 through Feb. 23 as Keep the Beat Week with events celebrating Go-Go music.
“Go-Go is the soundtrack of D.C. – we celebrate that all year, but especially during Keep the Beat Week,” Mayor Bowser said. “We are grateful for the champions of the culture who are bringing these events to life, and we look forward to seeing the community celebrating D.C., celebrating Go-Go, and keeping the beat alive."
Monday's event titled Pulse of the Capital Concert at the Howard Theatre is already sold out.
