DC celebrating 4 years of being the official home of Go-Go music with an awards ceremony Sunday night

Community members are invited to celebrate the influence of Go-Go in D.C. during the 4th annual "Keep the Beat Week," from Feb. 18-23.

WASHINGTON — An awards ceremony honoring those who have worked to preserve the history of Go-Go music will be held Sunday night in Southeast, D.C. 

The ceremony comes ahead the official grand opening of DC's Go-Go Museum. Officials say the brick-and-mortar location is expected to open in Anacostia sometime this spring.

"The Go-Go Honors," will be held from 8 p.m. until midnight Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Washington Capital National Mall Holiday Inn.

The event will include a live performance from the Experience Band. 

The fundraiser/awards ceremony is just one of many events planning during the 4th annual "Keep the Beat Week," DC Mayor Bowser announced on Friday. The celebration highlights local Go-Go talent and the District's commitment to to preserving the legacy and culture of Go-Go.

“Go-Go is the soundtrack of DC – we celebrate that all year, but especially during Keep the Beat Week,” said Mayor Bowser. “We are grateful for the champions of the culture who are bringing these events to life, and we look forward to seeing the community celebrating DC, celebrating Go-Go, and keeping the beat alive."

A variety of family-friendly events will be held during "Keep the Beat Week," from February 18-February 23.
