This DC student just made a World Series appearance. Here's why

Eighth grader Madison Williams was named a Youth of the Year by Major League Baseball.

WASHINGTON — The Nationals may not be in this year's World Series, but the District was represented on the field thanks to a star student. Madison Williams was recognized on baseball's biggest stage prior to Game 2 on Saturday. She's a Nationals Youth Baseball Scholar Athlete and an eighth grader at DC Scholars Public Charter School.

She represented the Nationals as the Academy's Youth of the Year. She was one of 10 honorees from across the country honored on Saturday. She earned the title of Youth of the Year for excellent attendance and leadership at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.

Madison has been a part of the academy for the last six years. Her coaches say she has grown tremendously since she first entered the academy as a third grader, and is now a model Scholar Athlete and a volunteer coach at the academy's free community softball clinics.

Congratulations and keep up the good work, Madison!
