WASHINGTON — Move over, Elon — there’s a new tech titan in town, and she’s starting with a Google doodle!
Imagine turning a casual doodle into a $55,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for your school. Well, that's exactly what Maisie Derlega, a recent graduate of Jackson-Reed High School in Northwest, did.
She is the national winner of the 2024 Doodle for Google contest. Her doodle titled, "Family Dinner" won against thousands of other submissions.
Those competing were asked to answer the prompt, "My wish for the next 25 years." And Derlega answered with her interpretation of family dinner. She said, "Every Sunday night is filled with chaos, laughter, and the smell of food in my household. The standing invitation goes to any friends and family in the area. As my life grows and changes, my wish for the next 25 years is that this tradition remains a constant."
In addition to the prize money, her design will be displayed on Google's homepage for a day for millions to see.
