WASHINGTON — We are getting uplifted by how our community shows up for our home teams — specifically the Washington Wizards and the Mystics — and how, in return, the D.C. franchises return the love!
Players from both of our professional basketball teams spent the day at the Martha's Table at The Commons in D.C., pitching in and helping the organization's annual Thankful Meals Initiative.
It was a festive event with a DJ and family-friendly atmosphere, but it was also a time to get fresh produce, turkeys and all the trimmings into the hands of our neighbors in need.
Wizards guard, Baltimore native Bub Carrington, helped with the giveaway and says giving back is a part of the Wizards culture, something he hopes people will embrace.
"It's really good to give back when you're in more fortunate situations," Carrington said. "I just think it's really important, just like circle of life type of thing, and to help out Thanksgiving, as a whole."
The Thankful Meals celebration provided warm meals for people to take home, along with gift cards leading into the Thanksgiving holiday, and we are uplifted by some of the superstar athletes joining in the effort to make the season a lot brighter.
