Firefighters rescue guinea pig from raging Northwest DC house fire

No human injuries were reported, according to fire crews.

WASHINGTON — A raging fire in Northwest D.C. drove three adult, two children and one guinea pig out of their home Wednesday night, according to firefighters.

D.C. Fire and EMS crews said in a tweet that they were called to the 100 block of Adams Street Northwest for a reported fire around 10:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a fire with flames showing from a second floor porch with possible extension to an attic.

Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control and extinguish the flames before they spread to nearby homes, D.C. fire chief John Donnelley Sr. said in a tweet Wednesday night.

Five people were able to escape the blaze. Firefighters rescued a guinea pig named Charlie from the second floor of the home.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the people displaced.
