WASHINGTON — Some true hip-hop legends were honored for their contribution to the genre at D.C.'s National Hip-Hop Museum on Thursday. The museum inducted a new hall of fame class, which included the likes of Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys and Roxanne Shanté.
The ceremony took place in Northwest D.C. at the headquarters of the Recording Industry Association of America. DJ Hurricane, Queen Lisa Lee, MC Sha Rock and The B-Boys were also inducted. As part of the ceremony, the inductees got a custom trophy, a custom Hip-Hop Museum jacket, and a commemorative cassette necklace.
"This is a joyous day for me and especially the group," said Kool Rock-Ski of The Fat Boys. "Just to be honored by this prestigious museum and to be inducted into this museum is beautiful."
The National Hip-Hop Museum is on Georgia Avenue in Northwest near Howard University. In addition to the music, memorabilia and historic items you'll find there, the museum holds seminars and workshops that focus on everything from social justice to financial literacy.
