DC's cherry blossom indicator tree is already showing blooms

WUSA9 Meteorologist Makayla Lucero says the indicator tree will bloom anywhere from 7 to 10 days before the rest of the tidal basin.

WASHINGTON — It's official, D.C.'s cherry blossom indicator tree at the tidal basin is already showing blooms. This means the rest of the cherry blossoms aren't too far behind.

WUSA9 Meteorologist Makayla Lucero says the indicator tree will bloom anywhere from 7 to 10 days before the rest of the tidal basin.

Several indicator trees bloom ahead of the rest. The National Park Service (NPS) monitors their progress in order to determine peak bloom.

Lucero says it can be a little tough to find the indicator tree. So if you're looking to check it out, it's located off of Ohio Drive between the paddle boats and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

It's the only tree that has some of those white petals starting to bloom.
