WASHINGTON — Rockville’s Joan Vassos, 61, has another shot at finding true love on national television. She was announced as the first star of “The Golden Bachelorette” Tuesday.
The local school administrator was a front-runner and fan favorite on the premiere season of “The Golden Bachelor,” where sparks flew between her and star Gerry Turner before she abruptly departed the show to return home to Maryland after a call from her daughter, who had just given birth.
Vassos is heading back to the mansion and back into the spotlight as the franchise’s first senior female lead. She previously told Bethesda Magazine in November that she was open to the possibility of being the leading lady.
In between her stints in Los Angeles, Vassos has been sharing classic Maryland recipes and outfit inspiration on social media, making media/podcast appearances and spending time with her three grandchildren.
The new series airs this fall on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
