ARLINGTON, Va. — A Virginia woman has a chance at love with an international athlete in the new reality dating show “Love Undercover,” which premiered Thursday.
Arlington’s Akhya Mitchell, 24, will compete for the heart of one of five Premier League soccer stars who have traveled to the U.S. to go undercover and find a partner unaware of their fame and fortune.
In the first episode of "Love Undercover," viewers watch the five men hide their watches, cover their soccer tattoos and sweat as they try to keep up the charade of a normal career. Posing as personal trainers, ad salesmen, restaurant managers, or construction workers, the men have to navigate the dating world while keeping their fame and fortune secret.
The Premier League stars looking for love include:
- Olympic Gold Medalist Marco Fabián, 33, who was on Mexico’s winning team in 2012
- Jamie O’Hara, 36, from the United Kingdom
- Sebastián Fassi, 29, from Mexico
- Ryan Babel, 36, from the Netherlands
- Lloyd Jones, 27, from the United Kingdom
Mitchell told WUSA9 that she’d had enough of the local dating scene.
“In the DMV, you know, of course, the social life is so good. But I’m a woman who knows what I want. And I kind of am ready to settle down, have someone to myself who will, like, is my person. In the DMV it’s just a lot of ‘good time not a long time’ type of fun.”
Mitchell had the chance to sweep one of these soccer stars off their quick feet when the series was filmed in Los Angeles last summer.
“What you see is what you're gonna get on this show. I'm a real, raw, uncut kind of person. So all of my emotions are on my face before they come out of my mouth,” Mitchell said.
“Love Undercover” is streaming on Peacock, but the first episode is available on YouTube without a subscription.
