URBANA, Md. — Green Meadows Petting Farm is the ultimate family-friendly getaway for animal lovers. The 125-acre farm in Urbana, Maryland, is designed to show the joy of animals.
From bison to kangaroos, there are more than 200 animals to observe, connect with and learn from.
“We come here, oh, probably once a month,” said Mary Sampson, who visits from Clarksburg with her daughter. “Because she loves animals. And it’s great she can go up to them and pet them.”
Tickets are $16 for any visitors 2 years old or older.
It’s also a popular field trip destination for local schools.
“The interactions of some of the children that have never been around anything other than maybe a cat or a dog,” said farm manager Gretchen Keyes. “When they can actually go up, touch, feel, hand-feed a large animal like that and be comfortable like that, it’s pretty special.”
The go-at-your-own pace farm features hourly hayrides and pig races. Parents and kids are able to spend quality time together, learning how to kindly interact with the barnyard residents.
“And that’s what we’re trying to teach,” said Gretchen. “You need to treat animals right.”
Green Meadows Petting Farm will be open November 20-21, but will close the following weekend. Green Meadows staff will be transforming the farm for their annual Santa’s Farm Fest December 11-12. There will be visits from Santa, Elsa and local food trucks.
