WASHINGTON — Nestled in the treetops near Springfield, Va., Go Ape! Adventures is a must-see attraction for thrill-seekers and nature-lovers in the DMV area. With rope swings and zipline routes, it can make your Tarzan dreams come true.
“As being someone who used to be afraid of heights before,” said Krys Lowrey, who works at Go Ape! “I used to just go through it over and over again and once I finally was comfortable with it, I just kept doing more extreme things.”
Lowrey said some people come to face their fears head-on. Others come to soak in a day in nature with the whole family.
“I like when we get the kids that are kind of nervous,” said Lowrey. “It’s their first time trying out anything like this. And we just kind of help them out, and they really enjoy it and they end up going through the rest of the courses and having a great time.”
Birthday parties, work events, and other events give groups a reason to unwind in the treetops.
“It’s a good time,” said Lewis Kelley, who was visiting on a corporate retreat. “Get outdoors and do something that challenges yourself a little bit.”
“It’s harder than I expected, for sure. But a lot of fun,” said Emily Lilly, who was also there for the annual work event.
The Springfield location closes for the winter season after Dec. 12, 2021, and will reopen on March 12, 2021. The Rockville location closes after Nov. 28, 2021, and be back open on April 2, 2021.
The Go Ape challenge is for people of all ages. While there is no age limit for children to participate, there is a height limit. People must be at least 3’3” to go through the easier courses, and 4’7” to take on the higher courses. There is a maximum weight of 285 pounds to participate.
