ARLINGTON, Va. — Dec. 31, 2019 marks the end of a decade, and with it will go an Arlington institution. Clarendon Ballroom will shut its doors after 20 years in business in January.
But they aren't going out without a bang. In a truly full-circle move, the bar will throw one last New Year's Eve Bash, to mark the fact that Clarendon Ballroom opened on New Year's Eve in 2000.
The Art Deco venue was first occupied in the 1930s by the historic department store, Woolworth's. In its new life as an events venue, it has hosted myriad musicians, from nationally known bands like OAR, to local favorites like White Ford Bronco.
"It has been our pleasure to be part of the Clarendon community for the last 20 years," the bar said in a Facebook post. "This area has changed a great deal since we first saw a furniture and fabric store built in the 1930’s as a Woolworth Department store and thought that it would make an excellent music and events venue."
The team has two events on the calendar before the "final call" on New Year's Eve.
On Dec. 27 the bar will host the band Mr. Greengenes, and on Dec. 28 the house deejay, DJ Lil Fos, will collaborate with several other local DJs for a dance party.
