Pike & Rose AMP venue closing after 9 years

The lights will dim on AMP on June 30.

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. — A nonprofit performance venue is leaving its popular space at Pike & Rose this summer. A spokesperson for Strathmore, who runs the Montgomery County venue AMP, said Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRIT) told them the space is now needed for a commercial tenant relocating its headquarters to Pike & Rose. They did not say who would be taking over. The AMP lease ends on June 30.

For nine years, AMP has been home to Strathmore's Artist in Residence Program, its AMPlify initiative supporting artists as they create new work, and collaborations with Montgomery County Public Schools. Those locations will move to new locations under Strathmore's umbrella once AMP closes.

The venue has also allowed new artists and artists on the rise to develop their craft.

“AMP has been a vibrant addition to our community’s arts and entertainment scene, bringing people together and enriching our cultural landscape,” said Strathmore’s President and CEO Monica Jeffries Hazangeles.

AMP has a full calendar of performances leading up to is closure at the end of June. Its last scheduled performance is by June Artist in Residence Kaiyla Gross on June 26.

“AMP is more than just a venue,” Hazangeles said. “It embodies Strathmore’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to program cultural experiences beyond the mainstream. While it is difficult to say goodbye to our space at Pike & Rose, we are excited to pursue new opportunities and carry forward the programming that made AMP special.”
