Detectives say the incident began off the bus as an attempted robbery in the 4500 block of First Street, SE, on Wednesday at 12:29 p.m. The victim ran onto the Metrobus to escape, but was followed by 18-year-old Stephen Metts Jr. and 19-year-old Jovontae Wallace.
Once onboard, Wallace and Metts stripped the victim of their jacket and ran off the bus. The two then began firing at the bus before getting into a car and fleeing the scene.
The bus driver and riders aboard were not injured during the shooting.
On Thursday, Metro Transit Police arrested both Metts and Wallace in Southeast, without incident. MTP has not announced what charges the two are currently facing.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the department's anonymous text tip line at 50411.
