Woman, 86, struck by driver trying to park in Laurel, police say

Police identified the woman as Patricia Sheppard.

LAUREL, Md. — Laurel Police say an 86-year-old woman was struck and killed in the parking lot of a grocery store Tuesday. Investigators have identified the woman as Patricia Sheppard. 

On Tuesday, officers were called out to the 410 block of Sandy Spring Road around 3:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Sheppard laying in the parking lot of the Food Lion. 

The driver remained on the scene to talk to police. Preliminarily, police believe the driver struck Sheppard while attempting to park in a parking space. It is not known if the driver will face any charges.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has more information for detectives should contact the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092.
