TIMELINE: When storms could become severe this weekend

Storms will be very isolated Saturday night and mainly north of D.C. and again Sunday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through the DMV

WASHINGTON — A lot of the weekend will be dry, hot and humid. There is also a chance for storms Sunday, leading our weather team to issue a Weather Impact Alert for Sunday p.m. 

When:

  • Sunday: Now until 11 p.m.

Impact:

  • Sunday: Scattered storms for the entire region, especially along the I-95 corridor, with heavy rain, lightning, strong wind, and small hail. Low chance for an isolated tornado. 

Need to Know:

  • Don't cancel plans, most of the weekend will be dry
  • Have a place to seek shelter as storms develop
  • In addition to the storm threat, it will be very hot and humid on Sunday
  • Stay hydrated
  • Take breaks from the heat 
  • Check on elderly, children and pets

Sunday:

Storms will be more widespread on Sunday between now until 11 p.m., with most of the storms focused along and east of the I-95 corridor. 

In addition to the storm threat, it will also be very hot and humid. Actual temperatures will climb back into the mid 90s, but feel like 100 degrees + once you factor in the humidity.
