Weather Impact Alert for high heat and evening storms

High heat combined with high humidity will make temperatures feel like they are as hot as 110 degrees through early Wednesday evening.

WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for dangerous heat again Wednesday.

Alert Details:

When:

  • Wednesday: Now until 10 p.m.

Impact:

  • High heat and humidity. Highs: 94 - 99; Heat Index: Up to 110 degrees
  • Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms

Need to Know:

  • Avoid outdoor activities
  • Drink plenty of non-sugary, non-alcoholic beverages -- preferably water
  • Check on elderly people, children and pets
  • Know the signs of heat related illnesses
  • Don't walk pets on the pavement
  • Eat small meals
  • Close your shades/curtains on the east side of your home in the morning and on the west side in the afternoon/evening

Today was the seventh day of temperatures well into the 90s and this will still be paired with continued significantly higher humidity levels.

An Excessive Heat Warning will go into effect for the District and I-95 Corridor and points southeast, with a Heat Advisory for the remainder of the DMV until 8 p.m.

In addition to the heat, a line of gusty storms will move through the DMV during the evening with a weak cold front. As storms develop they will  be capable of producing locally heavy rain, gusty wind and vivid lightning. An isolated tornado isn't out of the question, especially in northern Maryland.
