WASHINGTON — Delta is now a post-tropical depression, with 30 mph winds and has started to impact the DMV with heavy rainfalls that started on Sunday and will continue overnight into Monday for a wet start to the workweek.

All forecast data and models bring significant rain into the DMV. The bulk of the heavy rainfalls Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Some heavy downpours are likely after dark on Sunday through daybreak Monday.

As Delta moves through at the end of this weekend, expect widespread impacts. Isolated flooding may occur late Sunday and early Monday morning. Local area creeks and streams may flood as a result of the steady rain on Sunday. Some low water crossing may be closed, along with roads that are prone to flooding. Roads will be wet everywhere, from Sunday midday through early Monday morning. Travel may be hazardous at times overnight Sunday.

We actually ended up with less rain, ranging from 0.75 inches to 1.5 inches, so flooding did not happen.

Delta was the 25th named storm of the 2020 hurricane season and made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane late Friday afternoon.

Delta quickly went from a tropical storm last Monday morning to a major hurricane by Tuesday morning. After making landfall in the Yucatan in Mexico, Delta made second landfall east of Cameron, Louisiana Friday evening. Some of the same areas in Louisiana have been hit by Delta and Laura. Blue tarps still cover many roofs in the area covering the damage from Laura.
