The weekend

Showers and storms have already moved across the region Sunday.  Activity will continue between now and taper off around 8 p.m.  Storms have packed lightning and heavy rain.  A few storms may also produce gusty, damaging wind.   At times, showers will get lighter before storms fire up again.

How much rain?

When all is said and done, a widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain looks possible over the next several days. Thankfully it has been dry so flooding is not a big concern. Any flood risk would come from urban areas where we see heavy downpours that may lead to urban street flooding.

Good for the drought!

The good news is, we need the rain! Most of the DMV is currently experiencing moderate drought conditions with our western counties considered abnormally dry.

The rain over the next several days will certainly help with the current rainfall deficit.
