TIMELINE: Here's when rain, wind will be the heaviest Friday

A Weather Watch Alert has been issued for another storm that will bring another round of heavy rain and winds gusting up to 45 mph. Here's the timing.

WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Watch team is tracking a strong storm set to bring heavy rain and high winds. Sounds familiar? The weather system moving in tonight shares a lot of characteristics to the storm that moved through Tuesday.

KEY DETAILS:

  • Rain arrives after 6 p.m. Friday and become moderate to heavy Friday night (7 p.m. - midnight).
  • 0.50" - 1.00" + of rainfall.
  • Gusty wind picks up Friday night and last through Saturday.
  • Average peak wind gusts of 30 - 40 mph, up to 50 mph in some neighborhoods.
  • A southeasterly wind will lead to more coastal flooding.
  • Saturday will be windy and chilly with falling temperatures.

TIMELINE:

Showers will hold off until around 6 p.m. Friday. Showers will first develop in our southwestern counties and spread northeast throughout the evening. A Flood Watch has been issued for the I-95 corridor Friday night for an inch or more of rainfall.

By 11 p.m. there will be widespread moderate to heavy rain with wind ramping up.

Rain will clear out by the pre-dawn hours of Saturday with plenty of sunshine expected over the weekend. Snow showers will continue in the mountains through Sunday.

RAIN:

A widespread 0.50" - 1.00" of rain is expected with locally higher totals up to 1.50".

WIND:

A Wind Advisory will be in effect for the majority of the DMV on Saturday from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Areas in the advisory could see wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour at times.  Light yard and patio objects, along with trash cans should be secured on Saturday.
