Tracking a Thanksgiving storm in DC, Maryland, Virginia

Thursday won't be a washout, but morning rain may impact your travel or Turkey Trot plans.

WASHINGTON — An area of low pressure will move across the DMV just in time for Thanksgiving. The day will not be a washout, but plan on a period of rain and showers starting Thursday morning and lasting into the early afternoon. This may put a damper on Turkey Trot plans and slow down any travel you're planning on the holiday.

While a few more afternoon and evening showers aren't out of the question, plan on it being mostly dry throughout the second half of the day with overcast skies and chilly temperatures.

Local Travel Breakdown:

  • Tuesday Morning: Scattered showers from 5 a.m. - 9 a.m.
  • Tuesday Evening: Dry but breezy and chilly
  • Wednesday Morning: Dry and partly sunny
  • Wednesday Evening: Dry with increasing clouds
  • Thursday Morning: Rain and showers from 4 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Thursday Evening: Dry skies but roads may still be damp
  • Friday Morning: A stray shower or sprinkle but mostly dry
  • Friday Evening: Dry and breezy

Timeline:

Thursday 6 a.m.
Rain will move in during the pre-dawn hours of Thanksgiving and continue throughout the morning. Most rain will be fairly light, but pockets of moderate rain from time to time are expected. If you're traveling up to northern Pennsylvania or parts of New England, accumulating snow is looking increasingly likely.
