WASHINGTON — The first snow of 2024 for the DMV has come and left behind inches of proof that the wintry weather happened.
A Winter Weather Alert was placed in effect on Monday into Tuesday morning as steady snow for several hours fell from the sky. WUSA9 Meteorologist Jonathan Myers even noted that the snow drought in D.C. has officially ended.
It has been two years to the day, as of Jan. 16, that we've seen an inch or more of snow at Reagan National, according to WUSA9 Meteorologist Jonathan Myers.
The airport recorded an inch on Monday but had tallied up 3.8" total as of 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Arcola, Virginia -- in Loudoun County -- saw the highest totals thus far, recording more than 6 inches on the ground as of Tuesday morning.
Here's a closer look at the snow accumulation totals around the D.C. region.

WUSA9 viewer, Ron Diehl, sent in a photo through our app showing snow in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In the photo there is a yard stick in it showing that the snow reached almost 4" in their area.
Another viewer, Pearl, shared photos from Anacostia. Pearl's rulewr showed nearly 3 inches accumulated on her patio.
What's next?
We have another chance for snow in the forecast late Thursday into Friday, with highs staying in the 30s. The late Thursday and Friday snow chance will not produce as much snow as our Monday - Tuesday storm. Skies will clear by the weekend, but temperatures will still be unseasonably cold.
