WASHINGTON — Parts of the D.C. area were underwater Friday evening following heavy coastal flooding all day long. Flood Warnings were lifted late Friday after rising water closed roads and forced businesses to shutter for safety.
The flood event, which was predicted to be the worst since Hurricane Isabel in 2003, is forecast to last several high tides along the tidal portion of the Potomac River and the western side of the Chesapeake Bay.
"This is expected to be one of the worst tidal flooding events of the past 10-20 years," according to Christopher Strong, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Baltimore Washington NWS Office.
