WASHINGTON — A severe storm with damaging winds, heavy downpours and lightning impacted the entire DMV Saturday night. Crews are out on the roads Sunday morning cleaning up the mess from flooding and many residents remain without power. Some Flood Warnings in Northern Virginia lingered into Sunday.
Alexandria, Fairfax County and Prince William County experienced the bulk of the storm Saturday evening.
Weather Alerts:
As of Sunday morning, Flash Flood/Areal Flood warnings have been canceled for the majority of the region.
Power Outages:
As of 7 a.m. Sunday, nearly 3,000 residents are left without power, according to Dominion Energy's power outage map and Pepco's outage map. The majority of the outages are in the Northern Virginia area. Both power company maps show that nearly all customers have had power restored across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
There is no word at this time on when additional power may be restored.
Damages:
Crews in Alexandria and Fairfax are working to clear up the roads impacted by flooding due to Sunday's storms. The National Weather Service reports that more than four inches of rain fell in about two hours, and significant flooding has taken place in Northern Virginia, the City of Alexandria said.
In Fairfax County, the following roads are closed due to flooding and weather damage:
- Clarks Crossing Rd at Elgin Drive is closed due to downed wires in the roadway
- Melbourne Drive at Van Fleet Drive is closed due to a downed tree and wires in the roadway
- Newington Road at Shannons Landing Way is closed due to flooding
- Newington Road at Cinder Bed Road is closed due to a downed tree and flooding
- 8270 Cinder Bed Road is closed due to a downed tree
- 8311 Cinder Bed Road is closed due to a downed tree
- 2307 Trott Avenue is closed due to downed wires in the roadway
